I hoped you have a great weekend planned. Usually I have plans to get some big important things completed to move my business and my creative projects forward. This weekend is an opportunity to do what I typically do throughout the week, attend meetings. One meeting is focused around my love, writing. Another one is around something i know a little bit about, investments. The things that is energizing about these experiences are that the people I will be with know more about the subjects than I could by myself or just reading. It helps to challenge my thoughts on both subjects deeply. I feel thankful to be renewed by these friends and growing friendships. Next weekend I will binge some show ('Y, the last man is calling me.). What is one way you can invest in yourself or others this weekend? Take care of yourself by growing in a way creates personal excitement.
I was watching a video called “Equal Opportunity? Different starting lines.” On YouTube. In the video this coach guy. lines up dozens of young people in one line with the objective of them racing to him to win a $100.00 bill. He then asks them a series of questions. In each question if it is true they take a step forward. Here are some of the questions: - Did you grow up in a two parent home? - Did you have tutor for classes in school (I was surprised about how many did versus how many didn’t. I don’t know anyone that had one)? - Did you have to help your parents with bills? - Did you have ever worry about your cell phone being turned off? - Have you ever worried about where your next meal was coming from? There were many more and as it went on, The amount of young people that were toward the back were mostly brown and black. I could see their faces while the others laughed and giggled as they were several steps ahead. There were a few that stood at the front that looked back and I hoped understood. Family (that’s you), this is the reason why I’m into personal productivity. I needed some way to win my own race. This allows us to determine our own success. So if it’s sales, writing, business, or your own endeavor you own the parameters of the finish line. In my own mind, this plus the grace of God are the reasons for my life. For me and maybe for you, our goals and milestones we do are not only to help our loved ones but it may have deeper meaning. It may help us catch up and more importantly to ensure the ones we love aren’t in the back In most email programs there are ways to filter emails. In gmail there are labels and the ability to filter messages effectively. On a computer browser (I think you can do this on the gmail app and android) just go to the upper right corner and there is a FLAG pointing right (or "…”) like icon (it may look different depending on your computer.) and it will say “Filter messages like these” and then you can either delete, archive, or put a label on the email type. Remember to check or highlight the email first. It will then not crowd your inbox. In Outlook, there are icon(s) on the top ribbon that says “Rules / Alerts”. Remember you must highlight a message first. Then you can send the messages to specific folders or delete the highlighted message. The reason why I use this on these platforms is not to get rid of emails, but to segment my productivity system and minimize solicitation messages in my face. I will then schedule my day to look at them at a time that is good for me. In order to have an effective system, our goals is to create time for us to be mindful, minimize distractions, and find time for our loved ones. I know these tips apply mostly personal while some companies mandate employees check emails all the time. I hate those policies. Once we are distracted (with anything) it is difficult to get re-engaged in important work.
Bonus Tip #1: In IOS (Apple) disable notifications on your emails. "Favorite" people that are important to you in your contacts. You will see them, but not the deluge of messages we all receive. Bonus Tip #2: If you use Gmail, at some point over years, you may get a message about getting close to the cap of 15G. This will get there even faster if people are sharing videos or files though Google’s “Drive” platform. A fast way to free up space is to go into your sent folder and delete messages there. If you are like me, sent messages over the years can accumulate. If I can help you in any other way send me a message to tbt@winstonawilson.com or leave/text me a message at 470 357-7213 and I will get back with you. Look for “THE PRODUCTIVITY HOUR WITH WW” coming this fall. “Your time is your life.” -WW |
