When I really wanted to propel my career years ago I realized that there was something missing. Most of my career has been in sales so I had a powerful hunger not to lose anything. Not to lose any moment. Not to lose any prospective client. I considered sales my personal business, in which I could chart my success and my income.
In the hectic nature of day-to-day stuff, I did lose. I remember the client like it was yesterday. My appointment was at ten in the morning. I could let you fill in the story. five minutes impacted not only that sale but the partnership(s) that could have come from it. I did not take a previous note to schedule the appointment (no electronics back then, just stone carvings). I tried to remember it in my head which led to a comedy of frantic behavior that morning. I became hardcore about not missing anything, anyone, anywhere. Over time I will share very personal tactics, but the foundation of it was taking super awesome notes! The secret is that following up on Notes will help to ensure that you never miss anything. I have evolved from the Franklin Covey notes tool (which I still adore) to awesome tools like One Note and Evernote. These have become so ubiquitous that they can be on every device at all times (like your phone, tablet). Some versions of One Note you can write with, but if you want an awesome handwriting tool, check out Notes Plus! The key here is to succeed, get stuff out of your head and in your notes. The most important task for each following day will become following up on your notes! |
